OverlandResource.com Article Submission Guidelines

You've come here because you're interested in writing an article to be included on the OverlandResource.com website.  Here's the process:

  1. Select a Topic: Your need to write about something that is remotely related to overland and expedition travel.  This is pretty loose though.  For example, I've written a few posts lately about batteries and voltages, which you could argue aren't about traveling at all.  But there's a connection between kitting an expedition vehicle out with lots of electrical equipment and that means you'll need to have a good understanding of everything battery.  So the topic stands; it's loosely related.
  2. Start Writing. Really?  Yes, get the words down.  Try to produce something at least 4 paragraphs long (or more if you like).  Try to be direct and to provide useful information.  Let your personality show.  Don't worry about grammar, spelling, punctuation.  If you're not a wordsmith it's ok - we edit.
  3. Images? If you've got great photos or supporting images you'll have to send them separately.  Include something in the text that says something like "insert image 1 here".  Email your images to images@overlandresource.com and we'll include them.
  4. Categories and Tags: Select a Category from the drop down list.  If you want to suggest a new category we don't have, then do so in the text - just leave us a note.  Create a list of comma separate tags - keywords that describe the topic and related topics for the article you've just written.  Enter as many as you like.
  5. Select a Title: Enter a title that describes the article.  Don't be afraid of making it long and descriptive.  If it is too much we'll shorten it for you.
  6. Keep it Original. Please don't copy content from other sites, books, or any other copy protected media.  Attribute others work where appropriate.  Use quotations to show what they said.  Insert the link or other reference for where you found the information.
  7. Submit it. When you submit the article, the website will notify us that it is in the queue, and we will edit it and publish it to the public portion of the site.  We try to do this in 2 days or less.
  8. Copyright: You write the content, so you own the content.  You get to use it as much as you want, anywhere you want, anyhow you want.  You even get to tell us to stop using it whenever you want.  We're not interested in holding you hostage to your own original work.  That said, we do reserve the right to edit the content before it is published to the site, and we get to take it off the site if we wish.  You'll still own it though.
  9. Backlinks to Your Site: During editing we will ensure that at least one quality backlink is included in the text, ideally as a deep link, back to your website.  If you have a specific web page you want linked to, then place it in yourself.  If not, we'll use the web page you filled out in the contact form.  If you don't have a web site, then ignore this.
  10. Affiliate Ad Links: This site is supported through the pitance of affiliate ad link income.  Get rich on Google?  That's not us.  However we still place affiliate ads into the text.  Your article will have similar links placed within the text as well.  Any revenue is ours.

That's it.  Now go write something!
