Download South America Topographic Maps


southamerica_indexmap.jpgAs part of the preparation for our 2008 South America Expedition, we have obtained a complete set of Russian Military 1:500,000 South American Topographic Maps.

We have packaged them up into three (large) self extracting zip files for you to download directly from OverlandResource.com. Along with the excellent OziExplorer calibration files supplied with the original maps, each package includes:

  • Cyrillic - English Transliteration - you can download it from us here;
  • Index map of South America, complete with OziExplorer calibration file;
  • Name search database for each country in South America, for use with OziExplorer. This will place english names on the locations of multiple map features, including administrative regions, cities and towns, hydrographic features, and vegetation;
  • All the map legend and symbology required to read the maps including a Translation of Soviet Military Map Terms, Soviet Military Map Topographic Abbreviations, and 1:500,000 Soviet Military Map Symbols (click on each link to download); and
  • Each map image file in .png format along with the OziExplorer partner calibration .map file. Each of the three pacakges are supplied in a self extracing Windows zip file (.exe format).

**Mac users note** If you are running Mac GPS Pro you’ll be happy to know the files are compatible. However, the downloads are Windows executable self extracting zip files only. Prior to purchasing you should contact us directly and we’ll make arrangements to send you a Mac version until we create a permanent fix.

**Sample Map** Click on the map below - it is a full size screenshot of an area in Ecuador of one of these maps, loaded and calibrated into OziExplorer. It will give you a good idea of the scale and what you are getting.

**Purchase** Purchase is by PayPal. If you don’t have a PayPal account, you can enter a credit card directly through the PayPal interface without signing up. An official receipt will be emailed to you from Paypal, and a further email will be sent from OverlandResource.com with download instructions. Please check your spam and junk folders.
